Our inaugural gathering of the Diocesan and Deanery Pastoral Councils was held in the hall of St Andrew’s Parish Marayong.
Nearly one hundred people assembled, drawn from the majority of our parishes. Councils were seated together and members valued the opportunity to get to know each other, share something of their faith journey and of how they believed the councils should work.
After an opening hymn, Bishop Vincent offered introductory remarks, calling upon our councils to be listening bodies, particularly to those who are “outside the tent”. He desires our councils to be connected to the grassroots, to help him listen and respond to the real needs and concerns of the people.
Fr Paul Roberts, Episcopal Vicar for Evangelisation, offered formation to our new members. He shared the concept of expanding our lens, in how we see others, in how we relate through a common language and in honouring the questions people bring.
Richard McMahon, Director of Pastoral Planning & Implementation, concluded the day with a brief review of the Advisory Councils Handbook, inviting our council members to consider what support may be needed as our councils embark on their roles.
